We develop and manage sustainable, safe and affordable homes and work in partnership to create vibrant, inclusive communities.
Connecting people to opportunity, we take a place based approach to advocate for, coordinate and partner with the services that people and communities need.
Founded in 1985, SGCH provides a place to call home for 11,500 people in 7,000 properties across the Sydney metropolitan region. We are recognised as a Tier 1 provider under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing. We bring capability and capital to work in partnership with governments, developers and builders, financiers and investors, community groups and people to shape great places for everyone.
Our organisational values underpin our customer service approach and guide how we work together to create great places for everyone
Our local offices and property portfolio are indicated on the map to the left.
Our story began in 1985, with a man named Frank Baker, who saw a need to provide housing and short-term accommodation for people with low incomes who were waiting for Government Housing properties. With fewer than 25 properties in the St George area, two staff and a local management committee, St George Community Housing began operating from the back verandah of the home of one of our founding members.
In 2014, we became known as SGCH to reflect our growing expansion beyond the St George area.
In June 2019, SGCH was granted Vice Regal Patronage by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales.
Her Excellency was sworn in on 2 May 2019, and will have a five year tenure.
