Celebrating together: bringing the festive season to our customers

18 December 2025

SGCH teams have been busy spreading festive cheer, bringing around 20 pop up end-of-year parties to our communities across Sydney.

Despite Sydney’s heatwave, Santa still made it to Riverwood, joining a lively Christmas themed festival held in partnership with Homes NSW.

Local resident Tina was thrilled to sing carols with fellow members of the Residents Organisation at Riverwood (ROAR). A regular at their weekly BBQs, she sees firsthand how community housing supports wellbeing and social connection.

“We are older people here – and some live by themselves. So, coming to things like today, it really brings everybody together.”

Tina loved seeing residents come out of their shells. “You see the smile on their faces. And to make it even more special we sing SMILE – that’s our song.”

Shameema, a member of the SGCH Customer Voice group, said the event was especially meaningful at a time when cost of living pressures are front of mind. “For people who can’t afford a Christmas party, they can really come and enjoy being here together.”

She also enjoyed the global village which is Riverwood. “Today we see different people. We talk to each other. We know each other. We understand each other. That’s the main thing. I love meeting people from all over the world.”

Customers also appreciated connecting with vital local services including Fire and Rescue NSW, City of Canterbury Bankstown, Riverwood Community Centre, Riverwood Library & Knowledge Centre and Sydney Local Health District.

SGCH is proud to deliver festive events, as part of a year-round community engagement program which promotes belonging and social connection at our properties. SGCH properties are more than bricks and mortar: we are great places, thriving people and connected communities.
