Opening the doors to new homes
SGCH has achieved some significant milestones in recent months. Project completions have added crucial housing stock while a strong development pipeline promises continued growth ahead.

Box Hill, Melbourne: Signalling SGCH’s venture into Victoria
SGCH has partnered with Conscious Investment Management (CIM) to acquire 102 dwellings in Box Hill, Victoria – our first in this state. The properties are being delivered as affordable housing under the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF) program. The acquisition is being financed with capital from CIM’s managed funds. SGCH will gain ownership and ongoing operation of the homes, with the financing structured to ensure they remain affordable and in community ownership long-term. Our Box Hill dwellings are intended to be offered as affordable housing for predominantly frontline workers. The turnkey apartments are ideally situated near public transport and within walking distance of the Box Hill health precinct. Our first customer, Fiona (pictured above, on left), has just received her keys and she couldn’t be happier. Read more about our first foray into Victoria here.

Carseldine Village, Brisbane: Our first interstate development is underway
In July 2025, SGCH achieved an extremely significant expansion milestone. We held a sod-turn ceremony in Brisbane to celebrate the beginning of construction on our Carseldine Village project – our first-ever project beyond the borders of NSW. Developed in partnership with Bric Housing and Economic Development Queensland and with funding from the Housing Australia Future Fund, this project will deliver 152 homes by late 2028, comprising 62 social housing units and 90 affordable housing units. The housing crisis transcends borders and we’re thrilled to be working with Bric to provide homes for those in need.
Addison Road, Marrickville: officially opened by PM
SGCH celebrated a landmark achievement with the official opening of 61 brand-new social and affordable apartments in Marrickville, marking a proud start to our 40th anniversary year. The ceremony welcomed distinguished guests including Prime Minister the Hon. Anthony Albanese, NSW Housing Minister the Hon. Rose Jackson MLC, Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne, NSW Transport Minister Jo Haylen and Homes NSW CEO Rebecca Pinkstone. In June 2025, this project won the Social/Affordable Development category at the Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards with our valued partners IDC/Tricon.
For Lucie, a single mother of two teenagers, the journey to her new home in Marrickville has been fraught with challenges. Over the past 10 years, Lucie and her children have moved seven times due to escalating rent, property sales and evictions. Despite working full-time, juggling roles as a professional carer and Uber driver to make ends meet, Lucie was forced out of her previous home when her rent increased from $640 to $900 per week.
She was one of our first tenants at Addison Road and said: “Without support from SGCH, I don’t know where my family would be today. Now, we have security, my kids have their own room and we don’t have to live in fear of being forced out. This place has been life changing.”
As he opened the building, Prime Minister Albanese commented, “I want to congratulate St George Community Housing. This completes some 561 dwellings that SGCH is building under the Social and Affordable Housing Fund. We’re partnering with NSW on so many projects. Just here, there are 61 apartments, 48 for social housing, and 13 for affordable housing tenants.”
NSW Housing Minister the Hon. Rose Jackson added: “We love working with St George Community Housing. They’ve been long standing partners of the NSW government. They deliver excellent buildings. They deliver excellent tenancy services. Everyone’s got to get in this together.”

Barangaroo: now leasing to essential workers
SGCH is in the process of signing the final tenant leases for 50 key worker apartments within the Watermans Residences at Barangaroo. This project was a turnkey partnership with Lendlease as part of the One Sydney Harbour development. The acquisition provides high-quality, sustainable housing for essential workers – including healthcare, police, fire services, teaching and childcare professionals – in one of Sydney’s most vibrant waterfront precincts. The apartments meet exceptional environmental standards with 6-star NatHERS energy ratings, 5-star Green Star design ratings and 10 units built to Silver Liveable accessibility standards.
One of our key worker customers, Dom – a frontline social worker – says of his new home at Barangaroo: “My commute is 40 minutes shorter, not sitting in gridlock traffic, giving me the headspace to decompress after a long day. It’s had a real impact on how I’m able to show up and support others through my work.”

Pennsylvania Ave, Riverwood: targeted social housing
Our new 51-apartment development on Pennsylvania Avenue in Riverwood is fully tenanted, providing sustainable and secure housing for at least 120 new SGCH customers. The complex features 50 social housing units specifically supporting women aged 55 and over, women and children escaping domestic violence, and individuals at risk of homelessness, plus one affordable housing unit. The project was made possible through the NSW Government’s Social and Affordable Housing Fund Phase 2 and a $20.6 million Affordable Housing Bond Aggregator loan from Housing Australia.

Wonga Street, Canterbury: for former street sleepers
Ten existing units in Canterbury, Sydney, have been transformed by SGCH into modern social housing. This project received $3 million in funding from the NSW Department of Communities and Justice through the Community Housing Innovation Fund and Together Home Transition Program, which SGCH matched to purchase and upgrade the property. Comprehensive renovation works included fire and electrical safety improvements, kitchen and bathroom modernisation and window replacement. All units (a mix of one, two and three-bedrooms) are now occupied by social housing residents, including individuals transitioning through the Together Home Program who have experienced street sleeping.
