SGCH Opens Newly Upgraded Social Housing Property in Mascot
SGCH has officially opened its newest property in Mascot, delivering nine high-quality social housing units designed to provide stability, comfort, and a fresh start for local families.
The building, purchased in 2024 and upgraded with support from the Department of Communities and Justice’s Social Housing Accelerator Fund – matched by SGCH investment -includes six one-bedroom and three two-bedroom units.
Extensive renovations were completed throughout the property, including new kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, and an upgraded lobby and communal laundry. The project also reflects SGCH’s strong commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, with key sustainability features such as:
- A rooftop solar system servicing tenant and house meters
- Energy-efficient LED lighting throughout
- Ceiling fans to improve natural airflow
- R5 insulation for greater thermal comfort
- Water-efficient fixtures and new energy-efficient hot water systems
- Replacement of all electricity meters
These improvements reduce ongoing environmental impact and help customers better manage their energy costs – supporting both sustainability and long-term affordability.
At the opening celebration, Andrew Layton, Head of Customers -Homes and Places, acknowledged the efforts of SGCH staff and delivery partners MSS Group, who worked together to bring the project to life. Guests were invited to tour the upgraded building and see first-hand the transformation.
One of the first customers to move in, who joined us at the opening to cut the ribbon, shared how meaningful the new home is for her family: “It’s light and bright and fresh – and it feels like home. That’s the most important thing to me: having a home for me and my little girl.”
