SGCH is delighted to announce the appointment of Karen Orvad to its Board
Directors resolved to appoint Karen Orvad as new Director at the September meeting, filling a casual vacancy. Ms Orvad commenced on October 5 2020 and will be nominated at the November Annual General Meeting for election to a three-year term.
Annette Gallard, Group Chair said of the appointment “Karen brings a wealth of professional expertise in governance, risk, audit, change management, and people and culture. Her appointment fulfils our strategic intent to maintain an appropriate mix and balance of skills, expertise, experience, diversity and independence to effectively govern and direct the organisation for the benefit of the customers and communities we serve.”
On her appointment, Karen Orvad says “I am excited to be joining the SGCH Board. I am looking forward to sharing my expertise to create opportunities, optimise risk management and contribute towards the achievement of the vision to provide ‘great places for everyone’.”
Karen brings over 25 years experience working with some of the worlds’ most recognised brands in governance, risk, internal audit, board advisory and strategic human resources. Karen is a former KPMG Partner with a speciality in Governance, Risk Management and Internal Audit. Karen worked with corporate, government and NFP clients across sectors including Health and Human Services, Energy and Natural Resources, Transport, Retail and Financial Services. Karen’s KPMG experience also included time within external audit and people and change consulting which brings a unique and diverse perspective to Karen’s approach.
Karen has held senior executive internal audit and risk roles in both the financial services and aviation sectors and operated as an independent consultant for a period. Karen is currently a Non-Executive Director at Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) where she is a member of both the Finance, People and Audit Committee and the Strategy Committee.
Karen is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA). She has an MBA (Exec) AGSM and a B.Comm (Accounting).
