Students gain real world construction experience at Deicorp

28 April 2026

Two young SGCH residents are a step closer to careers in construction- thanks to the 2026 Fouad Deiri OAM Strive Scholarship.

This week, scholarship recipients Adriano and Khoshnaw joined a mentoring session with Fouad Deiri OAM, Founder and Chairman of Deicorp. Over afternoon tea at Deicorp’s headquarters, Fouad shared insights and encouragement. They then joined a site tour at one of their newest developments in Zetland.

In their final years of school, both students are already studying at TAFE NSW, with their sights set on full-time employment. Adriano is completing a pre-apprenticeship in electrotechnology and said he enjoyed the chance to experience something new.

“Going on the worksite and seeing how everything is constructed was really interesting. I’m looking forward to advancing people’s homes and helping meet their needs,” Adriano said.

Khoshnaw is undertaking a school-based plumbing apprenticeship through TAFE and is leaning towards working for himself in the future. “I’m looking forward to starting my own business.”

Fouad sees the potential of young people like Adriano and Khoshnaw: “For the future of this industry, we must focus on apprentices, and that’s why it’s important to help young people in social and affordable housing come up through apprenticeship schemes.”

Now in its third year, the Fouad Deiri OAM Strive Scholarship supports students with mentoring opportunities, alongside SGCH’s $1,500 financial contribution to help with study-related costs.
